Choosing Your First Motorcycle: A Beginner's Guide
Buying your first motorcycle is exciting, and a little overwhelming. Keep these tips in mind as you shop.
Start with the right size. You should be able to place both feet flat, or nearly flat, on the ground. A comfortable reach to the bars and controls builds confidence.
Choose a manageable engine. Bikes in the 300–650cc range offer plenty of power for highway riding while staying forgiving for new riders.
Match the style to your riding. Cruisers are relaxed for around-town and touring. Standards are versatile all-rounders. Dual-sports and adventure bikes handle dirt roads as well as pavement.
Budget for gear. A DOT-approved helmet, jacket, gloves, pants and boots are just as important as the bike itself.
